Virgin Mobile has a laugh at the IPL…praise be!
At a time when most of the media seem to be treating the IPL as some kind of holy cow that must be revered at all costs, it is refreshing to see Virgin Mobile cock a snook at it. The company has come out with what it calls the Indian Hatke League, which is basically an online game where users can have a bash at some bowling and tally up scores that can get some awards. However, what really has us in splits is the utter irreverence with which the company has treated the IPL sides and its members. For instance, the eight teams in the Hatke League are called: Deccan ChilliEaters, Kolkata Tram Riders, Chennai Super Muthus, Kakke’s XI Punjab, Mumbai Manoos, Delhi Dhinchaks, Rajasthan Muchhads and Royal ChillMaadis Bangalore. On the playing side, you have the likes of Sachim Martodkar, Veeru Suhag, Mike Lassi, Hari Bhajji, and Lakshmipatni Maalaji. Add that up with expert commentators Ziddu and Inzoo and heck, we are sure we might pay the site a visit just for a giggle or two. They may not be covering it and the game might look suspiciously similar to Stickcricket but heck, Virgin Mobile deserve a round of applause for giving the IPL the funny treatment. Incidentally, keep an eye open for the TV ad for Hatke League – it had us giggling non-stop.

Seen the Virgin Mobile ads before – some of the dumbest ads in India!! Personally I’ve no reason to believe that it will be different this time!
